RH McDowell supports local Sue Ryder hospice through TPN Charity Draw

Keighley-based RH McDowell Logistics has donated £700 to its local hospice Sue Ryder Manorlands, after winning the TPN Charity Draw.

RH McDowell MD Joe Balmforth says the hospice provides an essential local service and the team was wholly in favour of supporting its work. “Hospices such as this rely entirely upon donations to help the sick and their families and we’re proud to have the chance to harness the power of the TPN network to help them.”

Sutton Coldfield-based TPN — THE Pallet Network — has more than 100 Member companies around the UK, each of which pledges £10 a month to the charity ‘pot’. A regional depot is drawn at random each month. At least half of the money must go to a charitable cause of the winning Member’s choice, although they are allowed to use part or all of the remainder to reward their TPN teams.

A Sue Ryder spokesperson says: “The TPN Charity Draw is a great initiative and we’re so pleased we can benefit from it this month. Manorlands has 15 beds, and provided 105,000 hours of palliative, neurological and bereavement support last year.”

However, the hospice requires £2.1m a year to maintain its services, even with the work of its 347 volunteers. McDowell’s £700 donation could provide almost two months of weekly visits from a community nurse to help a patient and their family.

TPN MD Mark Duggan says: “We are very proud of our Charity Draw initiative. Our network is made up of more than 100 of the best transport companies in the UK and all of them are very committed to working in their local communities and all have favourite charities they support.

“The TPN Charity Draw is a way we can work collectively to raise funds and awareness for charities, but still keep that local connection between our Members and the causes that matter to them,” he says.
