Leading logistics provider Gateshead-based Tyneside Express has donated all of its winnings from the TPN Monthly Charity Draw to two local charities, the Great North Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Tyneside Express is a Member of TPN — THE Pallet Network, the UK’s leading palletised freight distribution network. Minworth-based TPN has more than 100 Member companies around the UK, each of which pledges £10 a month to the charity ‘pot’. Each month one member company is selected at random to decide the allocation of the fund.
Although Tyneside Express was entitled to spend half of the £1,000 monthly fund on staff rewards, MD Darren Casey says the team decided to give all the money to charity.
“Our business may be national but we are also very rooted in the North-East,†says Casey. “These two charities are both Newcastle Hospitals NHS Charity funds, and supporting our local NHS is important to us.â€
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation supports research into cancer treatments and directly benefits patients in the North East and Cumbria. The Great Northern Children’s Hospital is a charity fund which supports young people who require treatment at the Royal Victoria Infirmary or Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
“Wherever you live, the NHS is very special,†says Casey. “It’s where most of us are born, are cared for, and what we rely on at the most important times in life. We couldn’t think of a better use for our charity draw money.â€
Sir Bobby Robson was also a man of the North-East and remains a local hero to Newcastle and surroundings areas. “We are more than happy to help continue Sir Bobby’s last legacy,†says Casey.
Co-incidentally Tyneside Express also invented the idea of the network’s charity draw, as a way of underlining the network’s collaborative spirit and also each individual depot’s commitment to local charities. It has been a resounding success. So far TPN Member companies have directed funds to Macmillan Cancer Trust, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, St George’s Crypt, Sue Ryder, Bluebell Wood, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and many more.
TPN MD Mark Duggan says: “We are very proud of our Charity Draw initiative. Our network is made up of more than 100 of the best transport companies in the UK and all of them are very committed to working in their local communities and all have favourite charities they support.
“The TPN Charity Draw is a way we can work collectively to raise funds and awareness for charities, but still keep that local connection between our Members and the causes that matter to them,†he says.
